Registration Open for ALA Library Instruction Round Table Webinar “Understanding the Mind-Body Response to Chronic Loneliness”–Tues., May 27, 2:00-3:00 PM CDT

Registration is open for the ALA Library Instruction Round Table webinar “Understanding the Mind-Body Response to Chronic Loneliness”. It will take place on Tuesday, May 27, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM CDT.

Please join Lead Consultant, Dr. Laura Leone*, from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, in exploring chronic loneliness, its factors, and how it differs from social isolation and social inaction. The impact and long-term effects that chronic loneliness can have on the mind and body will be discussed, drawing similarities to our understanding of the trauma response. The presentation will conclude with considerations and approaches for individuals, including adult learners, to oppose chronic loneliness and improve meaningful connections.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the webinar, participants will:

1. Recognize factors of loneliness and how it differs from social isolation and social inaction.

2. Gain an understanding of the impact that chronic loneliness can have on the brain and body.

3. Explore considerations and approaches for individuals, including adult learners, experiencing chronic loneliness.

*Laura Leone, DSW, MSSW, LMSW – Lead Consultant. Dr. Laura Leone is a Lead Consultant for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing since 2018 and has worked in the behavioral and integrated health field for over 25 years, providing organizational leadership and direct services for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, in addition to presenting, publishing, training, and consulting, nationally. Dr. Leone has extensive subject matter expertise in bidirectional integration; evidence-based practices; mental health; organizational change and systems improvement; service delivery for a variety of different communities, settings, and clinic types; substance use; suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention; trauma-informed, resilience-oriented, and equity-focused care and approaches; workforce development; and other health and wellness areas. She obtained her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California, her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, and her social work license from the State of New York.
