Land Acknowledgement

Land Acknowledgement

As a profession, librarians strive to provide accurate, unbiased and evidence-based information.

It is with this in mind, that the Health Science Librarians of Illinois wish to acknowledge that the land we meet on for this conference encompasses the native lands of many people. The beautiful forests, prairies, rivers, wetlands and rolling hills of this land became recognized as the state of Illinois in 1818. But long before that time there were many diverse Indigenous peoples who lived, worked and protected this land for generations prior to their forced removal. We recognize that these lands continue to carry the stories of those Native Nations and their struggles for survival and identity to this day.
