Dr. Rob Morrison, Dean of Library and Learning Support at National Louis University, is the 2018 recipient of the Illinois Library Association (ILA) Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year Award. The award, presented by the ILA Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries (IACRL) Forum, recognizes an Illinois librarian who is making an outstanding statewide contribution to academic or research librarianship and to library development. The award is sponsored by Library Juice Academy.
As described by his nominators, Dr. Morrison “truly is the epitome of excellence in, and service to, the profession.” He was a member of the ILA Executive Board from 2014-2017 and acted as the Board’s liaison to IACRL. He also served as a mentor for new directors in the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and as a member of the CARLI Program Planning Committee. At the national level, he has served on numerous American Library Association and Association of College and Research Libraries committees. In addition to his professional service and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Morrison has maintained an active agenda of teaching and scholarship with a focus on adult learners and distance education. Over the course of his career, he has taught courses online and in person, at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Most recently, he developed and taught a course on academic governance and leadership for National Louis University’s doctoral program in higher education leadership.
The Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year Award will be presented at the Awards Luncheon to be held on Tuesday, October 9, during the 2018 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Peoria. The luncheon starts at 12:00 PM.
