Illinois Academic Librarians Chosen as IFLA or IFLA-IMLS Fellows

Posted on March 20, 2016 by Eric Edwards

Fifty U.S. librarians, including support staff and students, have each received a $1,000 scholarship from the ALA to attend the 2016 World Library and Information Congress. The Congress, which is sponsored by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), will take place in Columbus, Ohio, from August 13 to 19. The purpose of the Fellowship program is to ensure that a large and diverse group can help represent the U.S. at the event, while eventually taking on leadership roles in worldwide library organizations. The Fellowships will cover conference costs, including registration, lodging, and travel. The program is funded by a $50,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, as part of the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program. Additionally, 70 librarians from the U.S. and Canada have received $1,000 conference scholarships through a larger program funded solely by the IFLA.

The following librarians from Illinois academic institutions have received scholarships.

IFLA-IMLS Fellows
Elisandro Cabada, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Erik Ponder, UIUC Graduate School of Library and Information Science

IFLA Fellows
Yi Han, Illinois Institute of Technology
Karen Snow, Dominican University Graduate School of Library and Information Science
Ning Zou, Dominican University
