The new Disability in LIS Journal (DisLIS), with 2017-2021 HSLI Secretary JJ Pionke as the editor, is now actively recruiting media reviews (books, movies, websites, what have you) of materials that have disability as a major component, from people who have experience with that disability. This could be a character with a disability, disability as a major topic in the media item, disability theory, and so on.
Want to write a critical review rant about how Brandon Fraiser should not have been chosen to portray a super fat in The Whale? We’re here for it! Did you fall in love with the latest Murderbot novel and need to talk about the role Murderbot’s anxiety plays in the book? Tell us all about it! Have mixed feelings about the newest book on disability theory in your academic discipline? Lay it all out for us! Want to share your joy (or disgust!) about a new romance that has a person with a disability as the villain? Share it with us!
When you are ready, submit your review via this form. Reviews can be short (approximately 250-500 words) or long analytical reviews (approximately 1000-1500 words). We’d love to see it!
While media reviews are a major focus for us, we are also interested in all academic and creative products. Articles, case studies, poetry, interview projects, and so much more are all fair game. Take a look at our submission guidelines and be prepared to see a formal call for academic and creative submissions later in 2025.
Not sure where to start? See our current list of books that are available to review and let us know which one(s) you’re interested in, and we’ll make sure you get a complimentary copy.
If you have questions, please reach out to us at DisLisJournal@googlegroups.com.
The future is disabled, and it’s already here, so let’s talk about it!
