Call for Proposals: CARLI Instruction Showcase (Thurs., June 4)–Deadline Thurs., April 2, at 5:00 PM CDT

The CARLI Instruction Committee invites proposals for this year’s Instruction Showcase, a forum for library workers across our consortium to share teaching approaches, practical strategies, and reflective insights currently shaping library instruction. This year’s theme, “Trust Us: The Role of Library Instruction in Transforming Landscapes”, centers on trust and how we cultivate it with students, collaborate with colleagues, navigate systems and emergent technologies, while also developing our own expertise in a rapidly shifting information landscape.

We welcome proposals that explore trust in library instruction, including questions such as:

  • How do we teach students critical thinking and source evaluation in a polarized landscape where institutional authority is increasingly contested?
  • How do we create inclusive learning environments in various modalities that recognize and respond to students’ varied experiences of trust with authority, institutions, and information?
  • How do we foster collaborative relationships with faculty and campus stakeholders while asserting our expertise as information professionals?
  • How do we guide learners through AI, algorithms, and other powerful technologies responsibly?
  • How do we cultivate trust while acknowledging the biases and limitations of library systems and tools?
  • How do we empower learners navigating information overload and misinformation?

We anticipate most presentations will be 15-20 minutes, but please indicate if you would be interested in presenting a lightning talk to briefly present an idea or work in progress, or a 50 minute workshop to fully present a topic. Presentations may focus on:

  1. Teaching demonstrations of current instruction practices, activities, or assessment  (in-person, hybrid, or online), teaching materials, or learning tools and sneak peaks of those still in development.
  2. Presentations reflecting on instruction practices, activities, or assessment, teaching materials, or learning tools (in-person, hybrid, or online)
  3. Larger issues of cultivating or addressing trust in issues of instruction.

We encourage participation from all, including early-career librarians, library staff, and graduate students.

Deadline for Submissions: Thursday, April 2, at 5:00 PM CDT

Notification of Acceptance: Thursday April 23

Event Date: Thursday, June 4

The Instruction Showcase is a welcoming, supportive space to learn from one another, spark ideas, and celebrate the transformative work of instruction librarians.

Please fill out this form to submit.
