Call for Papers: Journal of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education–Deadline Fri., May 1

Posted on March 19, 2026 by Eric Edwards

(via Kristina Clement, Kennesaw State University)

The call for papers for the Journal of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education (JOERHE) is now open. This issue welcomes original quantitative and qualitative articles, columns, and innovative practices concerning open pedagogy, open data, and analyses of current topics in open educational resources within the context of higher education in the United States and Canada.

Our submission portal will close on Friday, May 1.

Authors are encouraged to discuss the practical applications of their knowledge and findings, propose best practices, and describe their programmatic and practical experiences. All submitted articles will participate in an open peer review process, and peer review evaluations will be published alongside corresponding published articles.

This year, we are particularly interested in submissions on the following topics (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Grant Outcomes (for example, results from the Open Textbook Pilot, Institute of Museum and Librarian Studies (IMLS), Hewlett Foundation, National Institutes of Health (NIH), etc.)
  • Artificial Intelligence and OER / Open Pedagogy
  • Neuroinclusion and OER / Open Pedagogy
  • Utilization of OER in courses that don’t typically require texts (e.g., art, dance)
  • Open Pedagogy / Student Participation / Student Voices
  • Impact of Federal Open Access Mandates on OER at higher education institutions
  • OER and Accessibility (e.g., accessibility first OER, complying with ADA Title II requirements, OER remediation)
  • Sustainability and OER (e.g., after publication workflows, revision processes, versioning)

Please Note:

We accept manuscripts of up to 6,000 words. All submissions must be submitted in the JOERHE template. We have a new template for 2026. You MUST use the new template or your submission will be rejected. Full submission details and the template can be found on the Submissions page. If you need assistance with the template, please contact us BEFORE you submit.

With the evolving landscape of emerging technologies like generative artificial intelligence and automated tools, the journal has adopted a new AI Policy. All submissions must disclose the use of AI in their papers with an AI Disclosure Statement. Failure to disclose AI use will cause your submission to be rejected. Access our handy AI Policy for Authors Checklist to ensure your paper is compliant with our policy.

If you have questions, please reach out to us at joerhe@pm.me.
