As librarians, we understand how a citation shows the influence of one scholarly work on another. But citations are only one way to gauge the impact that scholarship has in its field and in the wider world. Starting from the context of traditional citation-based metrics, this session will explore a variety of alternative metrics that offer new and diverse ways for researchers to tell the story of their scholarship.

Erin Owens is the Access Services Coordinator and Scholarly Communications Librarian at Sam Houston State University, where she has been a member of the library faculty, in varying roles, for nearly 12 years. Although her informal work in Scholarly Communications began much earlier, Erin has now formally supported this area for three years, providing learning opportunities and consultations for faculty and graduate students on topics related to scholarly publishing, copyright and open licensing, research impact metrics, and much more. Erin currently serves on the ACRL Research and Scholarly Environment Committee, the College & Research Libraries editorial board, and as a peer reviewer for several LIS journals, while also pursuing her own research agenda. Her ORCID scholarly profile may be viewed at http://orcid.org/0000-0001-9520-9314

The free presentation will take place Tuesday, March 19th, 1-2pm CST via Zoom. Register:
