Join ALA’s Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services for our latest professional development event. Titled “Unpacking Ableism and Embracing Disability Identity”, the webinar will take place on Monday, July 28, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM CDT.
July marks a significant moment for the disability community as we celebrate both Disability Pride Month and the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This program will examine the multifaceted nature of ableism, including its institutional, interpersonal, and internalized forms. Participants will delve into the history of the disability rights movement and its evolution into today’s intersectional disability justice movement.
This webinar aims to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of their personal or relational connections to disability and the pervasive impact of internalized ableism on everyone. Also featured will be perspectives from library workers across ALA sharing lived experience through a facilitated conversation.
