Call for Feedback: Experience Working with AI Tools in Academic Libraries

Posted on May 30, 2025 by Eric Edwards

(via Dr. Dee Anna Phares, Northern Illinois University)

Since appearing just over two years ago, ChatGPT and successive generative artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools have produced an almost equal measure of dread and delight. Navigating a path through this polarized landscape is complicated by the fact that it is difficult to separate the hype from the reality when it comes to the use of GenAI in academic libraries.

We would love to hear from folks using AI tools in academic libraries. Are you employing GenAI for internal workflows? Research help or for other patron-facing activities? Are you using free or subscription versions? Is the use of GenAI saving you time or shifting your time to different activities?

This is not a survey; we just want people to share their honest opinions based on their experiences. Please respond off-list to Dr. Dee Anna Phares at dphares@niu.edu.
