Health sciences librarians are information professionals who have special knowledge in quality health information resources. By helping physicians, allied health professionals, administrators, students, faculty, and researchers stay abreast of and learn about new developments in their fields. They work in a variety of environments which include academia, hospitals, industry, and government, and possess a special skill set to evaluate the quality, authenticity, and accuracy of health information from a variety of resources. They also implement innovative strategies to access and deliver important information for patient care, research, and publication.
There is a lack of available training and education in health sciences librarianship, however, and often, librarians who take on this roll are left to learn on the job. This course will introduce librarians to the most common specialties found in health sciences librarianship.
The instructors are Jaclyn Morales, Senior Librarian at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, part of the Northwell Health System; and Stacy F. Posillico, Senior Librarian for the Northwell Health Eastern Region Hospitals
This course is worth 1.5 CEUs or 15 PDHs. The cost is $250.00.
