Registration is open for the free ALA eLearning webinar “Show Up For Our Libraries: Turning Congressmembers into Library Champions”. It will take place on Tuesday, September 9, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM CDT. Please see below for more information, including the link to registration.
Libraries across the country need our support. In this webinar, ALA policy experts will share updates on the latest fights to defend library funding and train attendees on how best to turn your Congressmembers from passive library supporters (or objectors) into true library champions.
Library advocates have worked tirelessly to demonstrate the essential services libraries provide communities across the country. While it may seem difficult—or even daunting—to engage directly with congressmembers, many advocates are getting positive results: fruitful conversations in meetings with congressional staff, well-received letters to the editor, energizing in-person library visits, and more.
ALA Associate Executive Director Lisa Varga will provide an update on the critical library issues of the day, including ALA’s ongoing lawsuit to defend the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a win for E-Rate at the Supreme Court, and the current federal budget status. This webinar will give library advocates tools to cultivate their members of Congress into library champions, regardless of their political background.
