Conference Announcement and Call for Proposals:

The Future of Teaching Librarianship

Maryland Information Literacy Exchange 2018 Spring Conference

Wednesday, April 11, 2018, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Loyola Graduate Center, 8890 McGaw Rd, Columbia, MD

The Maryland Information Literacy Exchange (MILEX) is a collaborative of Maryland academic librarians to promote information literacy in higher education.

Join us at this year’s MILEX Conference for an insightful keynote about the future of teaching librarianship and for a workshop of teaching demonstrations and embedded learning activities.

Registration fees (light breakfast and hot lunch included):

MILEX member $45

Non-member $75

Membership + Registration $65

Student $20

For more information, visit the MILEX website: www.milexmd.org.

For the workshop portion of the conference, please also consider making a proposal to demonstrate or present a learning activity for critique. A roomful of teaching librarians will provide structured and constructive feedback on a learning activity you’re planning. Propose one of the following:

1. To demonstrate, for critique, a 15- to 30-minute information literacy learning activity that you would like to use (or use again) in class in the near future.

2. To present, for critique, a learning activity or assessment for use (or re-use) in the near future in an embedded context, like an online discussion prompt, research project, short tutorial, quiz, etc.

To make a proposal, please send the following information to the chair of the conference committee, Professor Brandy Whitlock, at bmwhitlock@aacc.edu by Friday, February 23, 2018:

1. In a paragraph or two, what your demonstration or talk will entail; a general outline is fine

2. Learning outcomes for students (what skills you want students to learn or develop as a result of the learning activity)

3. Optimal amount of time that should be allotted for your demonstration/presentation

4. Resources you will need

5. Short biographical statement

Registration will open on March 12 at the MILEX website: www.milexmd.org/events.html.

Register early, as space will be limited.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Brandy Whitlock with your questions and concerns: (410) 777-2523.
