The Director of the Medical Library is responsible for providing leadership, planning, and management of the School’s Medical Library and the Department of Information and Communication Sciences. The position reports directly to the Dean and Provost of the School of Medicine and works in a collaborative environment with other leaders to develop and execute strategic plans and decisions.

Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program and ten years of professional experience with progressive responsibility in an administrative or supervisory capacity in an academic or health sciences library. The successful candidate must have an understanding of the resources necessary to support medical education, research, and patient care and possess excellent planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Membership in MLA Academy of Health information Professionals at the distinguished level and five years management experience is strongly preferred, as is familiarity with current and emerging digital technologies and the design and integration of technology into curricula.

Opening for Digital Scholarship Librarian at DePaul University

Colleagues – we are currently recruiting for a Digital Scholarship Librarian to join the DePaul University Library. The successful candidate will join a library that has played a leading role on campus in the development of DePaul’s new Digital Humanities program and the use of library publishing services to advance open access in undergraduate research and faculty-led initiatives. With the establishment of the Scholar’s Lab in 2013 and coordination of digital project services in 2015, the DePaul University Library serves as a catalyst for digital scholarship efforts across the curriculum.

Digital scholarship–digital humanities, GIS, e-science, and “big data”–is an area of strategic interest and potential growth at DePaul, and this will be an extraordinary opportunity for a librarian with expertise and initiative to make a mark on the service program of our library, and to work with campus and community partners to show how the library contributes to the strategic goals of the institution. Opening for Health Sciences Librarian at SIU Edwardsville

Lovejoy Library at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking a Health Sciences Librarian. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment that is tenure-track. The position’s primary responsibility will be serving as a liaison to the University’s Schools of Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing, including teaching information-literacy sessions focusing on evidence-based practice. The individual will provide additional support online, such as LibGuides and teaching modules, through collaborating with the University’s Department of Technical Services. The successful candidate will also assist in collection development that helps those schools reach their curricular and research goals and will manage the materials budget in that area. Outside of the health sciences, the individual will work with the Lovejoy Library staff on such projects as grant-writing.

Minimum qualifications include an M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited school and work experience in an academic, research, or special library. Candidates should also be familiar with online library-resources and have a willingness to work collaboratively and be adaptive to change. Preferred qualifications include a background in the health sciences and familiarity with instructional methods and emerging technologies. Knowledge of current issues in the health sciences, including the latest trends in scholarly communication and scientific research, is a plus.

The Medical Library at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s Springfield campus is seeking an individual for the position of Head, Scholarly and Institutional Resources. This person will hold the title of Research Assistant Professor in the Information and Communication Sciences division and will report to the Director of the Medical Library. Main job responsibilities include selecting and providing access to a wide variety of scholarly resources that support the School of Medicine’s mission, particularly research and clinical care. The individual will also oversee the institutionally-produced resources found in the School of Medicine’s archival collection and records-management systems. The person will act as the Medical Library’s specialist for scholarly communications and will represent the Library on School of Medicine committees and in outside professional organizations.

Requirements for the position include a master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited school. Candidates must also have a minimum of five years of experience in technical services, collection development, or scholarly communications, with at least two years being supervisory. Preferred qualifications include having worked in an academic health-sciences library, in addition to possessing experience with records management or archives, particularly as they relate to e-resources and licensing.

The National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL, has an opening for a full-time Circulation Manager at its Learning Resource Center. Working under the Learning Resource Center manager, the successful candidate will oversee day-to-day circulation operations, which include shelving items, assisting visitors, and maintaining equipment. In addition to managing regular circulation staff, the individual will hire and train student assistants. The person will also compile reports documenting circulation activities, while participating in long-term strategic planning to improve circulation operations and the Learning Resource Center as a whole. Outside of the library, the Circulation Manager will act as liaison to RAILS/MAGIC. As needed, the individual will provide orientation and instruction for students, faculty, staff, and visitors at NUHS.

Requirements for the position include a Library Technical Assistant certification and at least three years of circulation experience. Preferred qualifications are experience managing public services in a library and having a background in an academic or health-sciences library.
