The Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA) Virtual Projects Section Advisory Committee is seeking current, innovative, and notable technology projects in health sciences libraries for the 2025 JMLA Virtual Projects Section. The Virtual Project Section appears on an annual basis in an issue of JMLA and recognizes projects that exemplify the range and direction of current technology developments in health sciences libraries. The 2025 JMLA Virtual Project Section will appear in the January 2026 edition of JMLA.
To be considered for the Virtual Projects Section, submit a 200-word abstract describing your virtual project, including why it is innovative or notable, in addition to the project scope, timeline, and assessment. To be considered, all four elements must be described. Also provide relevant project resources such as images or URLs (if available) that further describe or demonstrate the project. Technology projects must have been fully implemented within the past two years.
Submissions of virtual projects may demonstrate either the implementation of a new technology or a new application of an older technology. These projects should demonstrate how health sciences libraries have leveraged technology to manage or create new collections or services to improve user communities. Examples of current technology trends of interest include, but are not limited to, the following areas.
- Practical applications of artificial intelligence
- Digital support for inclusion & accessibility
- Coding or programming applications
- Hybrid or online teaching
- Data-related services
Send your submissions to the Virtual Projects Section Editor, Emily Hurst at ehurst@hshsl.umaryland.edu, by Monday, July 7. Please view the full call for proposals here.
