Call for Chapter Proposals: Upcoming Volume Beyond the Bookshelf: Academic Libraries and the Co-Curricular Landscape–Deadline Mon., June 30

Posted on June 12, 2025 by Eric Edwards

(via Kylie Bailin, Lafayette College)

Chapter proposals will be accepted until Monday, June 30, for Beyond the Bookshelf: Academic Libraries and the Co-Curricular Landscape, an edited volume to be published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing / Bloomsburg in 2027. This is a volume that takes a panoramic view of academic library programming and services. This book features case studies, best practices and reflections from academic library professionals across a wide range of campuses including small residential liberal arts campuses, community colleges, rural higher education institutions, large research universities, and more.

The book will weave together these experiences through the shared experiences of navigating the co-curricular landscape and adjusting to an increasingly digital and distanced post-pandemic learning environment. The volume will explore libraries’ role(s) at higher education institutions from a holistic perspective and explore how each institution uses co-curricular programming to strengthen collaborative relationships, solve campus problems, and build life skills in their student populations. Through these narratives, readers will gain an understanding about ways that a library can partner with other institutions and departments to leverage partnerships as well as investigate future paths for academic libraries to include more holistic, non-traditional programming and services for patrons.

Proposals are invited from academic library professionals at all levels. Proposals should be a maximum of 500 words. Completed chapters should be between 2,000-4,000 words and may include no more than 3 black and white images. Chapters should also include an abstract and keywords.

To view the full call for proposals, go here (should not require having an ALA Connect account). Please submit proposals via this form. E-mail beyondthebookshelf.group@lafayette.edu with any questions.
