Call for Applications: “CARLI Counts: Analytics and Advocacy for Service Development” Program (Deadline 11/23)

Posted on November 23, 2018 by Eric Edwards

(via Anne Craig, Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois)

Hello CARLI members! The applications are coming in, but I want to be sure that everyone has seen the application/participation information. The Library Application Form is available here. If you have trouble meeting the November 23 deadline, please let me know.

Please share this message widely.

Anne Craig

Dear CARLI Members:

Have you wanted your library to…

  • Create a powerful impact narrative for your library?
  • Use data in a compelling way to tell your library’s story to your stakeholders?
  • Demonstrate how your library supports graduation and retention rates?

Come join us!

CARLI Counts is a continuing education library leadership immersion program that prepares librarians to make effective use of research findings on the impact of academic libraries on student success for the twin purposes of service development and library advocacy. Program participants will learn how to use local library data analytics in alignment with institutional data, goals, and strategic priorities to improve their services and demonstrate their value.

CARLI Counts deliverables will include a portfolio of local case studies, an evaluation of the collective statewide impact of those cases, and a replicable state/regional training model for equipping librarians to be campus leaders in assessing library impact on student learning and success, all of which will be made openly available on the CARLI website. CARLI will work in partnership with the University of Illinois Library at Urbana-Champaign and Lewis & Clark Community College. “CARLI Counts: Analytics and Advocacy for Service Development,” is funded by an Institute of Museum and Library Services, Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grant.

The program features two cohorts, each with 30 attendees and 6 mentors. The cohorts will meet in person for two sessions, two days each session, for a total of four in-person days. Each cohort will be divided into six teams of five, each with one mentor.

Cohort 1 will meet February 20-21, and July 16-17, 2019, at the I Hotel in Champaign, Illinois. Lodging and meals are paid for by the grant. Participants will be expected to attend the 2019 CARLI Annual Meeting, tentatively scheduled for November 22, 2019, in Champaign.

What is the target audience?

Come as you are, leave different. All CARLI member libraries are the intended audience! Your library does not need to have a staff member dedicated solely to institutional research, or prior experience with the topics of assessment or data gathering. Come and learn from where you are.

How does my library participate?

To be considered for participation, complete the Library Application Form (see link above) and submit it to Anne Craig, at abcraig@uillinois.edu, by Friday, November 23, 2018. If your library is invited to participate, one person from your library will complete an Individual Information Form, available here on the CARLI Counts web site.

Libraries will be invited to participate based on evaluation of these criteria:

  • Strength of the application narrative
  • Statewide geographical representation among the applicant pool
  • Diverse library type representation among the applicant pool (public university, private institutions, community colleges)

Cohort 1 Library Application Forms are due November 23, 2018.

  • Library Directors/Deans will be notified of decisions by December 7, 2018.
  • Individual Information Forms from invited institutions are due December 14, 2018.

For more information about this project or with any questions, please contact Anne Craig.
