The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is offering two $1,000 travel awards to attend the National Conference of African American Librarians (NCAAL), August 9-13 in Atlanta, Georgia; and two $1,000 travel awards to attend the Reforma National Conference, September 7-9 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Funds from the travel awards may be used to cover the cost of registration, travel to and from the conference, lodging, and meals. One award for each conference will be designated for a current ARL diversity programs participant.
Eligible applicants must be one of the following.
- current students or recent graduates of library and information
science (LIS) programs - library employees in roles that do not require the MLIS
- library professionals within the first three years of their careers; or
- others who exhibit financial need.
The Association’s goal is to encourage conference participation and engagement of LIS students and library staff and faculty who might not have the financial resources to attend the NCAAL and Reforma National Conference. Applicants are asked to submit a statement of financial need along with their application essay. Each travel awardee will receive a single payment of $1,000 directly from the Association of Research Libraries. Awardees will be responsible for registering for the conference, making arrangements for travel, and reserving hotel accommodations.
Apply here by Tuesday, June 13. (More information about the required content of the application is available there.) The selection committee will be composed of alumni of ARL diversity and leadership programs. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by July 10.
