“Digital Creation Centers in Academic Libraries” Online Discussion on December 2

Posted on November 17, 2015 by Eric Edwards

(via Gwen Gregory, IACRL President, and Emily Thompson, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga)

ACRL/ULS, through its Online Discussion Group, is pleased to host the following online discussion: “Digital Creation Centers in Academic Libraries.”
The discussion will be held on Wednesday, December 2, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm EST.
Makerspaces for digital media and data visualization centers are becoming more common within academic library spaces, and may involve collaboration with other academic departments. In this discussion, you’ll get to hear from three panelists who will tell you about their own library centers and who can respond to your questions and comments on this fascinating topic.
The panelists are:

  • Barbara Lewis, Assistant Director for Digital Learning Initiatives at the University of South Florida Tampa Library, discussing USF’s Digital Media Commons
  • Bo Baker, Director of The Studio at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, talking about UTC’s Studio
  • Bryan Sinclair, Associate Dean, Public Services, Georgia State University, speaking about GSU’s CURVE: Collaborative University Research & Visualization Environment

Whether you already have a library space at your institution for digital visualization and creation, or you are in the idea or planning stages for such a center, you are going to enjoy this discussion. Please join us! To register for this event, go here.

If you have ideas for future topics, please share those with the members of the ACRL/ULS Online Discussion Group: Apryl Price (acprice@fsu.edu), Jessica McClean (jlm336@txstate.edu), and Drew Smith (dsmith@usf.edu).
