Call for Participation: Survey on Development and Use of OER Materials for Nursing Courses–Deadline Mon., Oct. 27

Posted on August 20, 2025 by Eric Edwards

(via Priya Shenoy, Drake University)

You are invited to participate in a research study being conducted by nursing faculty and librarians from Drake University and Sacramento State University. This survey will be available until Monday, October 27.

The purpose of this study is to explore how Open Educational Resources (OER) are developed and used in nursing courses. This study seeks to identify the experience librarians and nurses have in developing OER for use in nursing courses, how OER materials are used and identified, if librarians and nursing faculty have collaborated to create or use OER in nursing curriculum, and barriers to that collaboration. The survey linked below is for librarians who currently work with nursing students and nursing faculty in the United States.

To be eligible for this study, you must be a librarian with an MLIS or equivalent degree, over the age of 18 and have job responsibilities that involve nurses or a nursing program in the United States. Completion of the survey may cause you to feel uncomfortable or cause troublesome feelings or emotions. You are not guaranteed to receive any immediate benefits from being in this study, however there is the possibility that the results of the data collected here could have positive impacts on the individual by informing future practice and by providing the individual with additional resources for use in nursing courses.

The results of this study may help librarians who work with nursing faculty or nursing students to find and access OER resources in addition to providing best practices for how to work with nursing faculty to generate OER material for nursing courses. Your participation in this research study is voluntary. You may decide not to participate, or you may leave the study at any time.

Procedures:

Your part in this study will be to complete an online survey about your experience with OER, your experience and comfort working with nursing faculty, and your experience with collaborating with nursing faculty, regarding OER. To take part in this survey, please visit here.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to the primary investigator (Priya Shenoy, priya.shenoy@drake.edu) with questions or concerns.  You can also reach out to the Drake University IRB office, at irb@drake.edu or (515) 271-3472.
