Call for Participation: Survey on Academic Librarian Attitudes Toward the Environmental Impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence

Posted on July 1, 2025 by Eric Edwards

(via Mandi Goodsett, Cleveland State University)

You are invited to be part of our research project about academic librarian attitudes toward the environmental impacts of generative artificial intelligence. The purpose of the research is to examine librarians’ current practices, experiences, perspectives, and concerns related to AI and environment. This project has been approved by the University of Tennessee Knoxville IRB 25-08699-XM and also has a librarian representing Cleveland State University.

What to Expect

  • Survey: You will fill out a survey that uses Likert scales and yes/no questions. It will take you about 15 minutes to complete.
  • Focus Group: If interested, you can indicate your willingness to join a follow-up focus group after the survey. More details and a consent form will be provided should you decide to participate in a focus group. The focus group will take approximately 60 minutes to complete and will be conducted via Zoom.
  • Risks: There is minimal risk to participating in this survey.
  • Benefits: Participants who complete this survey will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of two $50 Amazon gift cards. In addition, your participation will contribute to valuable academic knowledge and help shape future practices and policies regarding AI and environmental sustainability in libraries.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and no identifiable information will be collected. You must be 18 years or older to participate.

You may access the survey here.
