Registration Open for The Ohio State University Libraries Webinar “IL Disciplinarity and Values”–Mon., June 30, 12:00-1:15 PM CDT

Registration is open for the webinar “IL Disciplinarity and Values”. It will take place on Monday, June 30, from 12:00 to 1:15 PM CDT.

What would it mean to teach information literacy with an explicit goal of transformation in mind? Originally developed by Jack Mezirow, transformative learning theory” has played a prominent role in the literature of adult education for several decades” (Hoggan, 2017).

The recognition of IL as a discipline continues to be a topic of discussion in the IL community. As such, a conversation around the values of the IL discipline may be useful to further our collective thinking and more explicitly identify what the IL community views as the values of the discipline. Some key questions include: How do our values shape our discipline? What are the key values identified by other disciplines, such as psychology or geography or other social science/soft disciplines and can they inform how we think about the values of IL? In this conversation, we hope to identify some core values associated with the discipline of IL and how they shape the future trajectory of IL in the 21st century. We hope you will join us for this conversation!
