Posted on April 24, 2021 by Eric Edwards

(via Luti Salisbury, University of Arkansas)

We are seeking speakers for the following remote Education Session at the SLA (Special Libraries Association) Annual Conference in August 2021 (see description below). The Conference will take place from Wednesday, August 4, to Friday, August 13. More information on the event is available here.

If interested in serving as a speaker, please send a brief paragraph describing your proposed talk to susan.makar@nist.gov by Wednesday, April 28. The expected length of the presentation is 15 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A (20-minute total). Or, if you know of anyone from academia who could present on this topic, please send your suggestion to Susan Makar, at the same e-mail address.

“Open Access Resources, COVID, and Providing Science Information”

The Covid-19 pandemic abruptly forced universities to move courses online. Faculty and librarians had to cooperate to quickly find, assess, and make available or use open educational resources remotely in their classes to enable the students to acquire the same knowledge as if they were in physical classrooms on campus. For an experimental science like chemistry, freely available lab videos, tutorials, datasets and learning activities have played a vital role in virtual classrooms. In this session, science faculty and information professionals will share their experiences and feedback on the effectiveness and assessment of the approaches they have used to meet their instructional needs and to successfully enable student learning. They will also elaborate on the value of the open educational resources / open access materials or other instructional methods they have used during the pandemic for remote teaching and student success.

Please note:  You do not have to be an SLA member to present at the conference.
