Request for Participation: Survey on Learning Analytics and Ethics

Posted on March 8, 2020 by Eric Edwards

(via Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)

Introduction:

We are making this post to request responses to a brief online survey. The purpose of this study is to better understand how academic library practitioners understand data ethics, research ethics, and how these forms of ethics intersect with educational data mining and analytic practices (e.g., learning analytics). Library and information science professionals and scholars directed us to this listserv because its members were likely to have professional academic library experience as well as an understanding of and/or experience with learning analytics.

The Survey:

Participants will complete one online survey. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. You can access the survey here.

About the Project:

This research is part of a three-year continuing education program that will train academic library practitioners to comprehensively address privacy and other related ethical issues associated with learning analytics projects. The training program will guide participants to explore learning analytics, privacy theory, privacy-by-design principles, and research ethics. Participants will develop a plan for a learning analytics project prioritizing privacy protections. The training will be provided in online courses and face-to-face workshops. Find out more about the project website, Prioritizing Privacy.

Questions:

If you have any questions about this project or the research team, please feel free to contact one of the team members below.
