{"id":7717,"date":"2018-08-26T23:55:04","date_gmt":"2018-08-26T23:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hsli.org\/?p=7717"},"modified":"2018-08-26T23:55:04","modified_gmt":"2018-08-26T23:55:04","slug":"call-for-proposals-art-libraries-society-of-north-america-midstates-chapter-meeting-deadline-9-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hsli.org\/newsletter\/call-for-proposals-art-libraries-society-of-north-america-midstates-chapter-meeting-deadline-9-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Proposals: Art Libraries Society of North America Midstates Chapter Meeting (Deadline 9\/18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>(via Sarah Carter, Indiana University Bloomington)<\/p>\n<p>The Midstates Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS\/NA) invites those engaged in work related to visual arts and information science to submit a proposal for a presentation at the annual Fall meeting on Friday,\u00a0October 19th, 2018 in Indianapolis.\u00a0 Submissions are welcomed in the following formats:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Presentations &#8211; a talk of 20 minutes, given by one or more presenter, with or without the use of visual aids<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Lightening-round talks &#8211; a talk of 3-5 minutes, given by one presenter,\u00a0with or without the use of visual aids; particularly suited for emerging trends<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Poster presentations &#8211; a visual presentation in poster format about ongoing or completed projects; presenters may provide handouts and\/or speak with viewers in an informal setting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prospective presenters are encouraged to submit proposals on a variety of issues related to art, design, and visual culture, including:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">book arts<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">cataloging issues<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">collaboration and partnerships across institutions<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">collection development<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">copyright and open access related to visual materials<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">critical librarianship<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">digital humanities<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">diversity and inclusion in the art library<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">information literacy for artists and art historians<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">museum librarianship<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">outreach to users<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">challenges in\u00a0special collections<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">web archiving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Submission guidelines:<\/p>\n<p>Submit an abstract of 300 words to Sarah Carter at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:saccarte@indiana.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">saccarte@indiana.edu<\/a>.\u00a0 Specify your preferred presentation format (presentation, lightening round talk, poster presentation).<\/p>\n<p>Submission deadline: <b>Tuesday, September 18th<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Fall meeting information:<\/p>\n<p>Dates:\u00a0Friday, October 19th, and Saturday, October 20th, 2018<\/p>\n<p>Venue: Herron Art Library and IUPUI University Library<\/p>\n<div id=\"x_gmail-m_-8118928952114819556Signature\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Indiana University &#8211; Purdue University Indianapolis<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Indianapolis, IN<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>About ARLIS\/NA Midstates:<\/p>\n<p>The Midstates Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America is a dynamic group of library and information professionals dedicated to art, architecture, design and visual resources. The chapter serves the region including Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. Our members are art and architecture librarians, visual resources curators, museum professionals, archivists and special collections librarians, collectors and appreciators, book publishers and dealers, content providers, educators, artists, and students. The chapter meets twice a year, supporting our professional network, sharing information and visiting member institutions. We welcome all interested members of ARLIS\/NA and all students enrolled in regional library and information science programs to become members of the Midstates Chapter.
