Daley Library are pleased to host a viewing of the Association of College and Research Libraries webinar &#8220;Essentials of Usability Design for Library Research Guides&#8221;, presented by Jason Puckett. This recorded webinar, lasting approximately one hour, will cover the latest tools and strategies for making library research guides as &#8220;user-friendly&#8221; as possible for students and others. A full description of the webinar and the associated learning outcomes is below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><i>Essentials of Usability Design for Library Research Guides (Jason Puckett)<br \/>\n<\/i><\/b><i>Web design, in the form of creating online research guides, has become a big part of many librarians&#8217; jobs, but we&#8217;re rarely taught how to do it well. Most of us learn the nuts and bolts of how to make guides, without learning the principles of how to make them usable &#8212; the simple techniques of visual and textual design that can help us create guides that users will understand more easily, and stick around to use.<b><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><i>Learning outcomes:<\/i><\/b><i><\/i><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><i>How usability design affects library users&#8217; experience<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><i>What librarians don&#8217;t know &#8212; but need to &#8212; about web usability<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><i>Easy to use principles of usability that can immediately improve your research guides<\/i><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><i>Free resources to share with your librarians and guide authors to better inform your institutional style plans<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The viewing will take place on <b>Thursday, June 7<\/b>, from <b>2:00 to 4:00 PM<\/b>, in Room 1-470 of the Daley Library. Mary Case, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries for the University of Illinois at Chicago, will give a brief welcome.
