Following is a message from Annie Knight, LILi Chair, re a date change for the 5th Free Annual LILi Conference.<\/p>\n
Please note that the date for the 5th Annual LILi Conference has changed from\u00a0July 13 to Friday, August 17\u00a0<\/span>(9am-1:30pm<\/span>). The conference will still take place at Glendale Public Library. Additionally, the conference proposal deadline has been extended to\u00a0Friday, April 20\u00a0<\/span>(with notification of acceptance by\u00a0Friday, May 18<\/span>).<\/p>\n When it was realized that the original date of the LILi Conference (July 13<\/span>) conflicted with that of the\u00a0People of Color in Library & Information Science (POCinLIS) Summit<\/a>, the LILi Board voted to change the date of the LILi Conference to support the POCinLIS Summit and LILi members who wish to attend both events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n You can visit the\u00a0LILi website<\/a>\u00a0for additional conference details and to submit your presentation proposals. Please help spread the word!<\/p>\n Save the Date \/ Call for Proposals<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n 5th Annual LILi Conference It’s Not Just Academic: Bridging Gaps with Information Empowerment in All Libraries<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Proposal Deadline: Friday, April 20, 2018<\/span><\/u><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n How has your library fostered information empowerment among its users? LILi invites you to share your library or program’s innovative teachable moments by submitting proposals with practical applications.\u00a0<\/span>Lifelong learning and information literacy (IL) development occurs in countless contexts and communities, within and outside the library. Given the skills required to compete in a rapidly changing modern knowledge economy, we can learn from our colleagues in all types of libraries.<\/span><\/p>\n Possible topics include, but are not limited to the following, all as related to information empowerment:\u00a0<\/span>Community outreach and organizing strategies;\u00a0<\/span>DIY publications (e.g., zines, podcasts, blogs, apps) and other knowledge sharing creations;\u00a0<\/span>Programming for various populations, including children, teens, seniors, immigrants, English language learners, and other marginalized groups;\u00a0<\/span>Workshops, one-shots, credit courses, and training sessions supporting students\/users\/patrons in online and face-to-face settings;\u00a0<\/span>Community archiving;\u00a0<\/span>Metaliteracy;\u00a0<\/span>Data Literacy;\u00a0<\/span>Digital citizenship;\u00a0<\/span>Makerspace and escape room activities that foster transferable problem solving skills;\u00a0<\/span>Open educational resource (OER) and open pedagogy initiatives<\/span><\/p>\n LILi invites you to submit proposals with practical application and built-in audience interaction\u00a0by April 20, 2018\u00a0<\/u>for a 15-minute presentation.
