This year&#8217;s event, themed &#8220;Libraries <b>A<\/b>ct, <b>R<\/b>espond, <b>T<\/b>ransform: The <b>A.R.T. <\/b>of Empowerment&#8221;, will take place on <strong>Friday, October 27<\/strong>, \u00a0at the\u00a0Nationwide Hotel &amp; Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio. The deadline for presentation proposals is <strong>Monday, April 10<\/strong>, and the last day for submitting poster and roundtable proposals is <strong>Monday, May 15<\/strong>. More information, including guidelines for proposals, is below.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Think creatively about how your work connects to this year\u0092s conference theme, \u0093Libraries <b>A<\/b>ct, <b>R<\/b>espond, <b>T<\/b>ransform: The <b>A.R.T. <\/b>of Empowerment&#8221;. Explore how academic libraries and librarians provide resources and initiate programs, partnerships, and policies that empower patrons, staff, and stakeholders while advancing equity and social justice. Remember, small actions in any area of the library can lead to big transformations.<\/p>\n<p>Ideas can include, but are <b>not <\/b>limited to, the following.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>critical Librarianship<\/li>\n<li>nontraditional resources and services<\/li>\n<li>services for and inclusion of diverse populations<\/li>\n<li>collection-development trends and models<\/li>\n<li>open access and scholarly communication<\/li>\n<li>programming, outreach, and marketing<\/li>\n<li>accessibility<\/li>\n<li>leadership and mentoring<\/li>\n<li>discovery and metadata<\/li>\n<li>information literacy<\/li>\n<li>sustainability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More information and submission guidelines are available on the <a href=\"http:\/\/alaoweb.org\/conferences\/2017\/proposals\" target=\"_blank\">conference website<\/a>\u00a0All presenters are responsible for their own registration and travel costs, although grants are available (see more below).<\/p>\n<p>ALAO encourages library support staff and library student growth, career development, and participation in conference activities, and awards two presenter grants, one for support staff and the other for students. These grants (up to $150 each) are intended to assist with the costs incurred in preparing the presentation and modest travel costs associated with the presentation.
