{"id":4227,"date":"2017-03-05T22:51:16","date_gmt":"2017-03-05T22:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hsli.org\/?p=4227"},"modified":"2017-03-05T22:51:16","modified_gmt":"2017-03-05T22:51:16","slug":"survey-to-identify-libraries-directly-serving-patrons-with-alzheimers-and-related-dementias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hsli.org\/newsletter\/survey-to-identify-libraries-directly-serving-patrons-with-alzheimers-and-related-dementias\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey to Identify Libraries Directly Serving Patrons with Alzheimer&#8217;s and Related Dementias"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">(via Mary Beth Reidner, Chair of the Alzheimer&#8217;s and Related Interest Group)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2015, the Alzheimer&#8217;s and Related Interest Group (IGARD) of the ASCLA division of ALA conducted its first\u00a0<i>National Survey of Current Practices<\/i>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ascla\/sites\/ala.org.ascla\/files\/content\/asclaourassoc\/asclainterest\/LibraryServicestoPersonswithDementia.xlsx\"><span class=\"s2\">Excel spreadsheet<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Since that time, many more libraries across the country have begun offering programs and services directly to persons living with dementia in their communities. IGARD would like to update its previous survey in order to get an up-to-date picture of what libraries are doing in this important area of service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">If you are one of these innovative libraries, please self-identify by completing this brief survey &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/2017-library-dementia-survey\"><span class=\"s2\">https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/2017-library-dementia-survey<\/span><\/a>. If you responded to the earlier survey, we would appreciate an updated response. Results of this updated survey will be accumulated and posted on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ascla\/interestgroups\/igard\"><span class=\"s2\">IGARD Web page<\/span><\/a>\u00a0before the Annual Conference in June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">If your library has not yet begun offering services to this growing segment of your community or is at the beginning stages, please note that IGARD is also hosting a Preconference before the Annual Conference entitled &#8220;Becoming a Dementia Friendly Library: Serving People Living with Dementia in Your Community&#8221;. We are bringing in experts from the field of dementia care to provide background information and will be presenting several case studies of successful programs for this too often forgotten population.
