Among the amendments, the new law:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>requires disclosable documents be made available in electronic format;<\/li>\n<li>includes a Presumption of Openness clause;<\/li>\n<li>limits FOIA exemption to select records created in the past 25 years;<\/li>\n<li>establishes a Council to make recommendations for improved compliance and efficiency in processing FOIA requests, enhanced government transparency and compliance, and similar initiatives;<\/li>\n<li>requires a streamlined online portal for public request submissions; and<\/li>\n<li>promotes the creation of procedures to identify federal records of general public interest, which will be made electronically available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.districtdispatch.org\/2016\/07\/fourth-feted-foia-reform\/\">District Dispatch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>State:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On June 30th the Illinois General Assembly approved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/billstatus.asp?DocNum=2047&amp;GAID=13&amp;GA=99&amp;DocTypeID=SB&amp;LegID=90591&amp;SessionID=88\">Senate Bill 2047<\/a> which is a funding bill affecting FY2016 and FY2017.
