Evelyn Cunico, MA, MS\/LIS is a Health Science Writer, a Medical Editor, and a Data Analyst. Her experience includes working as a Managing Editor for the American Hospital Association, a Staff Writer for the American College of Surgeons, and a Contributing Writer for the Radiological Society of North America. She is seeking an on-site Professional Administrative position to provide Research Support and Information Services to medical faculty. How did you first learn about HSLI and become a member? What were your expectations when you joined?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I learned about HSLI when I was in the MS\/LIS program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (the iSchool). My expectation when I joined HSLI was that in HSLI, it might be easier for members to become involved professionally, due to the smaller size of the organization, compared with larger library organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the most significant change you have observed in HSLI during your time as a member?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The membership has become more cohesive, as the smaller size encourages interpersonal virtual discussion to accomplish goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the most worthwhile or memorable experience you have had as an HSLI member?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At my first HSLI Annual Conference, a few members reached out to me, asking about my experience with medical writing and editing. The members showed interest, even though the field was separate from library areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How has your involvement in HSLI affected you, professionally and personally?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

HSLI has provided collegial opportunities by allowing me to serve on the 2023 Annual Conference Planning Committee. HSLI also provided me with the professional and financial opportunity to attend the 2018 Annual Conference, while writing an HSLI Newsletter<\/em> piece on Conference highlights, as a Syed Maghrabi Scholarship recipient. Most importantly, HSLI members have generously given me moral and practical support as I search for work in an information environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is one aspect of HSLI that you believe makes it truly unique as a library organization?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
