Riedner Grant for Life Enhancing Library Programs for People Living with Dementia (Deadline Fri., Feb. 11)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(via Mary Beth Riedner, retired)<\/p>\n<p>Applications are now being accepted for a new grant to encourage libraries to begin or expand their services to those living with dementia. Two $2,500 grants will be awarded in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The grant, entitled the Stephen T. Riedner Grant for Life Enhancing Library Programs for People Living with Dementia, is being administered by ALA&#8217;s RUSA Division. You\u00a0do\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0need to be a member of ALA or RUSA to apply, however. More information about how to apply can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/rusa\/stephen-t-riedner-grant-life-enhancing-library-programs-people-living-dementia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Grant submissions could include, but are not limited to, the following topics.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u200binclusion &#8211; welcoming this population into the library\/community<\/li>\n<li>staff dementia awareness training<\/li>\n<li>person-centered focus &#8211; address their unique needs as individuals with their own interests, abilities, and history<\/li>\n<li>literacy activities that promote the use of books and reading as at least one component of programming (which of course can include art, music, exercise, nature, etc. as well)<\/li>\n<li>academic research into reading and dementia<\/li>\n<li>developing partnerships with local organizations that also serve those living with dementia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The grant nomination process is simple, but there is a deadline of\u00a0<strong>Friday, February 11<\/strong>.
