It will take place <strong>on Friday, February 26, and Saturday, February 27<\/strong>. Participants will explore answers to the questions\u00a0&#8220;What does it mean when artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly governs our liberties?\u00a0And what are the consequences for the people AI is biased against?&#8221;\u00a0Full details and registration are available <a href=\"https:\/\/netizen.org\/bias-out-of-the-box\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for the event, participants are asked to watch <em>Coded Bias<\/em> before February 26. Rent\u00a0a streaming version of the film <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/ondemand\/codedbiasaptr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>,\u00a0or check with your librarian for access.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting schedule is below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<em>Coded Bias<\/em>\u00a0Documentary Discussion: A Conversation with Director and Producer Shalini Kantayya&#8221;&#8211;<strong>Friday, February 26, at 6:30 PM CDT\u00a0<\/strong>(a link to the event will accompany conference registration).\n<ul>\n<li>Join us for a conversation with\u00a0<em>Coded Bias<\/em>\u00a0director Shalini Kantayya. The documentary\u00a0premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and explores the fallout of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini\u00b4s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces and women accurately. The film also examines her journey to push for the first-ever\u00a0legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Algorithmic Activists Panel: A Conversation with Brandi Geurkink + Freddy Martinez&#8221;&#8211;Sunday, February 27, at 2:00 PM CDT (a link to the event will accompany conference registration)\n<ul>\n<li>Join us for a conversation with two individuals on the front lines-breaking algorithmic black boxes open and working with organizations to document algorithms and challenge their integrity. Brandi Geurkink is Senior Campaigner at Mozilla Foundation where she leads Mozilla&#8217;s advocacy work on countering disinformation and tech platform accountability. Freddy Martinez is the Director of Lucy Parsons Labs, a collaboration between data scientists, transparency activists, artists, &amp; technologists that operates in Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This series is made possible by Netizen.org and the John M.
