We understand that our entire community and the users we serve are facing indeterminacy and disruption in light of COVID-19. If you are interested in participating in this special issue, but would like additional time or other considerations, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will do our best to accommodate.<\/p>\n<p>This issue, guest edited by Heather Staines and Doreen Bradley, will feature new scholarship about the following topic areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Current Issues\/Trends<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>learning analytics<\/li>\n<li>general data security<\/li>\n<li>threats to data security (i.e. Sci-Hub and ransomware)<\/li>\n<li>new privacy laws and their impact on campus<\/li>\n<li>faculty and researcher data\n<ul>\n<li>ethical data management<\/li>\n<li>research and identifiable data<\/li>\n<li>access barriers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Library Perspectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>faculty, staff, and student data<\/li>\n<li>determining library responsibility<\/li>\n<li>convenience vs. privacy<\/li>\n<li>privacy education<\/li>\n<li>license negotiations and patron privacy<\/li>\n<li>privacy and library assessment<\/li>\n<li>vendor and publisher perspectives\n<ul>\n<li>data as commodity<\/li>\n<li>data portability and privacy<\/li>\n<li>big data, AI, and content discovery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Future Challenges\/Possibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>new tracking technologies<\/li>\n<li>facial recognition<\/li>\n<li>biometrics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This special issue will include the following content types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research paper (a well-documented description of original research or analysis. Research papers typically have lit reviews, outline a problem statement or methodology, and cite many other sources)<\/li>\n<li>Case study (a description and reflection of a project, experiment, or process that one has first-hand experience with. Case studies can be scholarly, but do not need as much rigorous source mapping as a research paper)<\/li>\n<li>Column (a thoughtful response to, or analysis of, a privacy-related topic.
