Call for Chapter Proposals: Upcoming ACRL Book Toward Inclusive Academic Librarian Hiring Practices (Deadline Fri., June 24)

(via Jenny Wong-Welch, San Diego State University)

Do you work in an academic library that has recently changed its hiring practices to be more inclusive? Please consider submitting a chapter for an upcoming ACRL book focusing on inclusive academic librarian recruitment. Please see the call for proposals below, and feel free to visit the website for the book (see below) for more details on possible topics, proposal submission guidelines, etc. Proposals are due by Friday, June 24, and authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by Monday, August 1.

Call for Proposals:

There is an urgent need to reimagine the academic librarian hiring process in a way that prioritizes inclusion while minimizing unrealistic burdens on candidates if the profession is to truly become welcoming and diverse. Academic librarian hiring practices often go unchanged or unexamined for several years at a time, leading to variations between search committees and outdated practices that fail to reflect the current or future culture of the library.

We are seeking chapters for an upcoming ACRL publication, that highlight efforts to transform recruitment processes in academic libraries to be more inclusive. While the focus of this book, titled Toward Inclusive Academic Librarian Hiring Practices, will be on practical strategies implemented by academic libraries, we also welcome proposals that are theoretical in nature as long as they highlight the practical implications for academic librarian recruitment. As editors of this volume, we envision three broad sections that will have submissions that discuss aspects of recruitment and hiring practices prior to, during, and after the candidate search.

For more information about the book, including possible chapter topics, please visit here.

When you are ready to submit a proposal, please use this form (also linked on the website for the book).
