(via Elizabeth Clarage, CARLI)

The 2017 Charleston Conference call for papers, panels, speakers, poster sessions, and other events still open through Friday, July 14. Charleston Conference: Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition is an annual conference held annually in Charleston, SC, each November (in 2017, it will be held from Tuesday, November 7, to Friday, November 10.). It is an informal annual gathering of librarians, publishers, electronic resource managers, consultants, and vendors of library materials, covering a range of topics from collection development and management (print and electronic), to scholarly communications and publishing, and so much more. Attendance recently has been approximately 2,000. More information about the Conference, including the different types of sessions, is available here.

This year, we are thrilled to announce a new topic thread: Up & Coming (UC). The UC thread is intended for attendees who meet one or more of the following criteria.

  • are new to the profession of library and information studies, including librarians, library staff, vendors, publishers, content providers, consultants, and researchers
  • are new to the Charleston Conference
  • area new to the specific areas of focus of the Charleston Conference (collection development, acquisitions, instruction, scholarly communication, technical services, vendor/publisher relations)
  • are MLIS students and recent graduates
  • have no or limited prior experience presenting at professional conference

The UC thread is a terrific opportunity for up and comers to accomplish the following.

  • become actively involved in the Charleston Conference
  • make a stronger case to attend the Charleston Conference
  • share one’s unique experience and knowhow in a supportive, reputable professional sphere
  • hone one’s presentation skills

Do you have ideas, challenges, solutions, or information to share? We encourage proposals that combine UC with other topic threads for lively lunch discussions, concurrent sessions, innovation sessions, and poster sessions. The Call for Papers proposal form is available here.
